Azerbaijan may have significantly underreported its casualties in the 2020 war
According to the Azertac news agency, 132,000 individuals – including family members of those killed in action and war veterans – have received social support in the postwar period.
A total of 106,000 individuals – comprising families of the deceased and veterans – have been granted 120,000 monthly social payments, while 25,600 people received one-time financial assistance.
The housing program for families of those killed and disabled due to the war has expanded fivefold, resulting in the allocation of 7,200 apartments and private houses, as well as 567 vehicles for individuals with war-related disabilities.
Some 622 disabled people have been provided with high-tech modern prosthetics.
In December 2020, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense reported that losses between September and November 2020 amounted to 2,783 military personnel.
The figures published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection may suggest that the officially reported casualty numbers were significantly underreported.
