Julio Cesar La Cruz Is WBA Bridgerweight Mandatory
AGON Sports continues its successful course in international professional boxing and is pleased to announce outstanding news just before the end of the year: AGON boxer Julio Cesar La Cruz has been officially named the mandatory challenger of the reigning WBA Bridgerweight World Champion Muslim Gadzhimagomedov at the WBA Convention in Orlando after just four professional fights.
With this decision by the World Boxing Association, one of the world’s largest boxing organizations has once again confirmed the sporting excellence and international relevance of AGON boxers. For La Cruz, a two-time Olympic champion and one of the most successful amateur boxers of his generation, the appointment is another milestone in his highly successful career.
AGON Sports and the team of WBA world champion Gadzhimagomedov now have 30 days to negotiate all the details of the title fight, including the fight date, venue, and organizational responsibilities. Flavio Oleaga Mirabal, who was honored as Matchmaker of the Year in Orlando, commented: “This renewed involvement in a world championship fight underscores AGON Sports’ ambition to establish itself permanently at the highest international level and to systematically develop its boxers to the top of the world rankings. With La Cruz, another exceptional athlete from our boxing stable gets the chance to fight for a world title.”
AGON promoter Ingo Volckmann welcomes the WBA’s decision: “Julio has absolutely earned this opportunity through his exceptional performances and most recently by winning the WBA Gold title. His style, incredible experience, and boxing skill make him an athlete who will rightfully fight for a world championship belt in the bridgerweight division.”
AGON Sports will provide updates on all progress in the negotiations in the coming weeks.
