Puerto Princesa next stop of IRONMAN 70.3
Triathletes embark on another race as the IRONMAN 70.3 is slated to take place in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on Nov. 13.
Just a week after the IRONMAN 70.3 in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu concluded, a teaser for the premiere triathlon event was featured on its Facebook page Saturday, Aug. 13.
“Puerto Princesa is centrally located in the long island of Palawan. It is the best island in the world. I would like to invite all the triathletes to come and join IRONMAN Puerto Princesa this coming Nov. 13,” said Puerto Princesa City Mayor Lucilo Bayron in the short teaser.
Bayron was also present during the IRONMAN 70.3 at Mactan Newtown to inspect and observe how the local government unit of Lapu-Lapu City prepared for the event.
Puerto Princesa is home to the Underground River or the Subterranean River National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it a part of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
The city offers the same refreshing view of nature given the abundance of rainforests compared to Lapu-Lapu City, where the new 8.9km-long Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) became the race’s spotlight.
This time though, triathletes will be traversing the 1.9-kilometer swim at the Puerto Princesa Baywalk Park, 90km bike at the southern part of the City to the Iwahig Bridge, and the 21km run around the City Center and finish at the Ramon V. Mitra Jr. Sports Complex oval track.
Filipino triathletes August Benedicto of Tarlac and Ines Santiago of Negros Occidental are the reigning king and queen of the Megaworld IRONMAN 70.3 Philippines. ###
