RA premier, newly appointed EUMA Head discuss regional stability
ArmInfo. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Satu Koivu, the newly appointed Head of the European Union Civilian Mission (EUMA) to the Republic of Armenia.
According to the press service of the Armenian Cabinet of Ministers, the Prime Minister congratulated Koivu on assuming this important position and spoke about the activities of the EUMA in Armenia.
Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the dynamic nature of relations between Armenia and the EU and noted the EU's consistent support for the development of democratic institutions.
Satu Koivu thanked her for the warm welcome and expressed confidence that close cooperation and active dialogue with the Armenian government's partners will continue.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as ensuring stability in the region.
Satu Koivu is a Finnish senior police officer with over 35 years of experience at the national and international levels. She has accumulated extensive international experience, holding senior positions in UN and EU missions in the Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Namibia, and Cyprus. Prior to her appointment as Head of EUMA, she served as Chief of Staff in the Finnish National Police Board in Espoo.
The decision to appoint her as the new Head of EUMA was made by the EU Political and Security Committees on 17 February 2026. EUMA is an important component of the EU's efforts to support peace and stability in the South Caucasus region. The mission's objective is to monitor and report on the situation on the ground on the Armenian side of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and to promote human security in these areas. EUMA's current mandate runs until 19 February 2027. The Mission comprises over 200 international and national staff. EUMA's observers and civil society experts represent 25 EU Member States and a third contributing country, Canada," the publication stated.
