Head of 5th TV channel ready to provide air time to Shohakat channel
ArmInfo. Channel 5 is ready to allocate airtime for the spiritual and cultural programming of the church-based channel Shoghakat, previously closed by Armenian authorities. This was announced on Channel 5 Executive Director Harutyun Harutyunyan's Facebook page. "As a proposal and a statement: Channel 5 is ready to allocate airtime for Shoghakat's spiritual and cultural programming," he wrote.
As a reminder, on December 25, the government approved a draft law amending and supplementing the Law on Audiovisual Media. The draft law envisages the closure of the church-based channel Shoghakat.
On October 24, the Armenian parliament adopted draft amendments to the Law on Audiovisual Media, which provide for a reduction in the number of public broadcasters to two, while simultaneously eliminating the requirement for an educational and cultural channel.
