What is the BTS new album controversy? Is it delayed due to Bang Si Hyuk’s fraud case? Read on to know
After three long years, BTS finally confirmed what fans around the world have been waiting for a comeback with a brand-new album. This will be their first release since all seven members who including RM, Jin, J-Hope, Suga, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, completed their mandatory military service. The group revealed they are in the U.S., teaming up with international artists for the project, instantly sending ARMY into a frenzy. But now, a surprising report has stirred speculation about whether the album's production could face delays. On August 13, South Korean outlet News Tong reported that Bang Si Hyuk, the chairman of HYBE, which is BTS's parent company, abruptly flew back to Seoul on August 11 after being summoned for questioning in a stock fraud investigation. According to the report, his sudden departure may have temporarily halted the group's U.S. recording sessions. However, no major media outlet has confirmed this, and it seems unlikely BTS would stop working on their album for this reason alone.
Why is HYBE's chairman under investigation?
The investigation centers on allegations that before HYBE's 2020 IPO, Bang Si Hyuk and three other executives misled minority shareholders into selling their shares to a private equity fund he secretly controlled. Once HYBE went public, the executives allegedly profited from those shares.
Days before returning to South Korea, Bang addressed the matter in an email to employees, promising to cooperate fully with investigators. "I feel a deep sense of regret knowing that our members and artists, who should be focused solely on their creative and professional goals, might be suffering because of this situation," he wrote, acknowledging how his absence may have confused.
What is next for BTS's album?
Despite the rumors, BTS appears to be moving full steam ahead. Recently, fans caught glimpses of them in the studio with Charlie Puth, while RM was spotted collaborating with Diplo. The group also reunited in full force after Jin wrapped up his first solo tour, RunSeokJin EP, on August 10.
The highly anticipated album is expected in the first half of 2026, though the exact release date remains under wraps. For ARMY, the countdown has officially begun.
